A Musical conversation among new friends. Ashley Bathgate and Paul Fowler meeting for the first time in the studio while the “tape was rolling”. This recording is from that session. I had invited the two of them to spend some time in what I thought would be an exchange of ideas while imagining what a future project might sound like. The time together became a series of improvs, this being the first. As I came to know the piece better, it reminded me of this line from a Rumi poem, translated by Coleman Barks.
“What was said to the rose that made it open was said to me here in my chest”
